S-fancyoccer is the most universally played sport in the
entire world. It attracts larger crowds for major
events than any known form of recreational activity.

U-fancypon soccer's arrival in Powell River in the early
1900's, it became a regular feature on the athletic
agenda-and a great favorite with all soccer
enthusiasts. Today soccer continues to lead all
fall/winter sports in Powell River for men, women,
and youth.

Sliammon Braves late 1940's


F-fancyor Sliammon, soccer has always been an important
sport since its arrival and was one which they
dominated. Sliammon Braves were one of the first
all-native soccer clubs in North America. The
Sliammon people were naturals to the game displaying
enormous skill, aggressiveness and ball manipulation
that continues to amaze their opponents. Ball
control and shooting power are skills in which
they excelled the most. Some locals have even
obtained status with division one, premier and
national soccer clubs.

T-fancyhe early soccer teams from Sliammon had a much
larger range in age, than today. At one time, two
of Sliammon's most outstanding players on the team
at the same time included a youngster of 15 and a
veteran of 53.

Sliammon Braves mid 1950's


T-fancyhe Sliammon Braves dominated all the Northwest
coastal teams with a considerably young squad and
a sprinkling of a few veterans. The Sliammon
Braves have won numerous local league titles, the
well known Lucas and Bell Irving Cups, the
Falconer shield and three British Columbia All-
Native Soccer Championships. 

A-fancylthough the soccer teams in Sliammon have changed
over the years and the sport itself has been
revolutionized, Sliammon has always upheld their
reputation for being one of the greatest competitors
known to the game.
