We try to offer people who come up the full effect of playing with a live band, we have the full use of the light show at the Inn, we have all sorts of other stage effects to make the jammers experience an unforgetable one. Local bands entertain every Friday and Saturday night and the Jam goes on every Saturday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Westview Hotel.

Come on down and join in.

The Westview Hotel was built in 1936.

In 1979 to 1980 Liz and Einar Jensen were part owners of the Hotel. They had a piano in the corner, an amplifier and microphones. Six nights a week Sverre Jensen ( Einar's brother ) and Einar would play, Sverre was the vocalist, rhythm guitar and Einar lead guitar. It was like an open jam six nights a week, anyone would get up and join in. They even had a gong set up, that they could ring for the not so pleasant entertainers. The place was packed, if you didn't get there early you didn't get a seat.

In 1980 Rosemary and Robert Tomasic bought the Westview Hotel. Sverre and Einar still played at the Hotel. RoseMary started to have bands from out of town, rhythm and Blues, Rock and Roll. They started the Saturday after noon jams. Many of the visiting and local entertainers came to jam. There are to many to name, home grown to famous and all between.

RoseMary had a collection of pictures of some of the entertainers on the walls, but when the renovations were done in 1992 the collection got lost. It was a very sad thing to lose this priceless heritage collection of the Westview Hotel.

In 1992 Ewald and Terry Werner bought into the Hotel with the Tomasics and Ken Watson. Ewald and Terry became the sole owners of the Westview Hotel in October of 1996. They started the Jammer of the year awards in 1992. It is eight weeks of semi finals, were the local jammer would be voted in by the audience. Then on the ninth week all eight semi finalist would jam off, judged by; one vote by the audience and one vote by each of the two judges.

The winner wins a one week trip to Las Vegas.

Winners over the years:

  • 1992-Mark Bowman
  • 1993-Brent Nicol
  • 1994-Glen Ogilvie
  • 1995-John Tait
  • 1996-Vince Aubin
  • 1997-Shane Winegarden

Before Christmas, two guys who dropped in to the regular Wednesday jam session at TC's, commented on the great sound of the music and went so far as to say in their opinion it is one of the best music scenes on the coast.

They were from Vancouver and travel quite a bit and so are in a position to judge. For the Regulars who frequent TC's jam night the music is great for dancing or just listening to.

Mike Lane is the genial host of the jam and the person who is credited with starting it. He was the host of B. Warden's acoustic jam for three years. He is also a member of Tequila Bedspins and owner of Mike's Music Lane on Marine avenue.

Other members of the Major Basement Backup band are Sam Hurrie, electric and acoustic guitar hero, who is a source of inspiration for many of today's top local performers. He is also leader of the Sam Hurrie band and the Tequila Bedspins.

Glen Ogilvie, bass player for the Tequila Bedspins and Tangled Web is another participator. He has played locally for years and won't wear silk underwear, which doesn't seem to affect his performance.

Dan Riley is also a bass player, locally known and sings like Chubby Checker. Dan Erickson, guitar aficionado is another regular attendee and often lends advice to his musical brothers.. The drummer is Paul Murphy who has been playing since the age of 13 and is also a member of the Tequila Bedspins and the Rhythm Rockets. He teaches drums at Mike's Music Lane and is apparently a spam sculptor.

Derek Cole is another Drummer and member of the Westview House band and according to legend likes cream corn. Other unpaid regulars include Dan Minard, Margaret Boutilier, Shane Winegarden, John Tait, Ian Tite, Mike Percey and Bill Lopez. Many others, regular and irregular, jam with the band. Singer Sue Aimes, well known on the folk circuit, jams along with the best. The action usually starts around 9 p.m.Wednesdays and continues till closing.

"I jam therefore I am." Copied with permission from Brin Wilson, contributor to the Powell River News.
