About the Unicorn:

Many have inquired, why the Unicorn is used as the logo for McCallum Computing Services.  Most everyone has a collection, and Alice collects unicorns.  Although the collection is small, Alice enjoys every piece.

When Alice was trying to come up with a logo for her business, she went through many collections of clip-art and other graphics.  Nothing really fit.  One afternoon she was sitting with a friend talking about the logo, when her friend asked, "why don't you use a unicorn?"  Alice's comment was "What do unicorns have to do with computers?  Nothing".  Her friend mentioned "that is true, but unicorns a part of you, and it is unique."  Alice gave it some thought, and then they both scoured the clip-art and graphic collections looking for unicorns. They found several, and Alice searched the internet for more.

So that is the story behind the unicorn logo.

About the Owner:

A long time resident, Alice is now raising her family of four children, with her husband Glenn in Powell River.  Some of her interests include playing games with the children, sailing, cross-stitching, reading, and collecting unicorns.

Alice and Glenn have a large piece of property which is home to a variety of wildlife (from deer to bears to all kinds of birds).

An interest in computers grew when Alice was in her graduating year at Max Cameron Senior Secondary School (Powell River). She enrolled in a Computer Science class and was hooked.

Glenn and Alice's first computer was a Commodore 64, which was then later replaced with a Commodore 128.  Glenn kept the Commodore 128 and Alice moved into the world of DOS and personal computers (PCs).

In 1989, pursued higher education when she enrolled at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) in the Computer Systems Technology program.  She received her diploma in 1993.

Alice has over seventeen years computer experience with IBM compatibles, Mac (Apple), mini-computers, and mainframe computers.

Alice's enthusiasm for helping people, grew from her work experience while attending BCIT. Alice was employed in the Computer Resources Department, in the User Help Centre assisting staff and faculty with a variety of computer related problems.

Alice began instructing computer classes at Malaspina University-College in 1994. She has developed and implemented training materials for her classes. Some of the topics she has taught include:
