The fireman's shelter at the back of the donkey
covers the door where wood was loaded into the burner. Water was piped from the
storage tank to a series of 200 two-inch pipes that fill much of the combustion chamber
(the large vertical cylinder, 6 feet in diameter and about 10 feet high to where the taper
starts). The large number of pipes ensured fast heat transfer which provided quick power
generation.
The tapered upper stack focussed the heat downward and provided draft control.
